Susan Elizabeth Winkler

Funeral: 05/31/2018 at 11:00 a.m.

Susan Elizabeth Winkler was born on October 28, 1968, in Shawnee, OK. She departed this life on May 18, 2018, at her home at the age of 49 years.

Susan made her home in the Lexington / Noble area for 27 years moving from Norman. She attended High School in Muskogee, OK. and graduated in 1986. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development in 1991 and her Masters in Speech-Language at the University of Oklahoma in 1993. She was Nationally Certified through the ASHA and received her Certificate of Clinical Competence for Speech-Language Pathologists. On January 4, 1991, she and Michael Winkler were united in marriage. After earning her Masters at O.U. Susan began her career at Noble Public Schools as a Speech Language Pathologist. She dedicated 24 years of her life there until she had to medically retire due to stage 4 breast cancer. Susan saw the need that some of her low-income students faced and wanted to help alleviate their struggles so she created the Adopt-A-Child Program. Her program was the first of its kind for Noble. Susan would come up with various fundraisers to support her club from talking to businesses, annual pancake breakfasts, silent auctions etc… Due to Susan’s hard work, no longer would a child who attended Hubbard Elementary have to worry about finding food, clothing, funding a field trip, buying a school picture, school shirt, or school supplies, and the list goes on and on. When Susan wasn’t working with students with disabilities, or helping fund the needs of children in poverty, she could be found giving up her time to the Noble Wrestling Program. She devoted 20 years of her life to meeting the needs of the Noble program. She was a Momma Bear who could be found raising money, washing uniforms, or even helping give pointers to the pee-wee and high school wrestlers. She loved going to the lake house in Eufaula, spending time at the river or going to the ocean, planting flowers in her garden and spending time with her family.

Susan was preceded in death by her adopted mother Janice Evelyn Dotson, sister, Lisa Renee Dotson and step-sister, Lisa Manfield. She is survived by her father Bob Dotson and stepmother June of Muskogee, OK, birth mother.
